A forest guard of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), Dimbeshwar Das has been honoured with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Earth Heroes Award 2019 at a function in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Das has been honoured with the RBS ‘Green Warrior’ award which is a category of the Earth Heroes awards.

The RBS ‘Green Warrior’ Award recognizes individuals who have done commendable work in conservation of wildlife, natural resource management, environment protection, human lives and property.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs two lakh.

Das, who has been selflessly working for KNP for twenty years, is also an expert boatman and a driver and is an adept at handling rifles.

This year, six persons and an institution have been honoured under five award categories of the ninth edition of the RBS Earth Heroes Awards in New Delhi.

The theme for the RBS Earth Heroes 2019 Awards is ‘Climate Change’.

The RBS Earth Heroes awards are an attempt to recognize institutions or individuals who gave their best efforts to protect and conserve the environment.

Apart from Das, Rajasthan’s Bholu Abrar Khan has also been honoured with the RBS ‘Green Warrior’ Award.

The other five winners include Ela Foundation, Aishwarya Maheswari, S Satish, Jalal Ud Din Baba, Pramila Bishoyi.

Union minister of state for home affairs Kishan Reddy, Union minister of state for environment Babul Supriyo and many other dignitaries were present in the function.
