Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi was arrested from a house in Jorhat on Thursday evening, a senior district official informed.

“He has been kept in preventive custody as of now for inciting people to join protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB),” the official added.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni Aparanji Korati, meanwhile, informed that night curfew and dry days have been declared in the state as youths were getting drunk and vandalising property.

“The curfew might be extended to the daytime as well if there was repercussion against Akhil Gogoi’s arrest,” she added.

Curfew was also clamped in Dergaon from Thursday 10 pm to Friday 5 am.
