A joint operation conducted by the Army and the Kokrajhar Police on the midnight of October 27 last led to the arrest of a hardcore Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) insurgent of the 20th batch KLO extremist group, a press release stated.
The insurgent – Manful Barman – is a 20th batch cadre of the KLO and was actively involved in various insurgent activities since the year 2015. The individual was responsible for multiple extortion activities in West Bengal and Kokrajhar districts. He was trained in the Myanmar KLO camp.
The release further stated that based on a tip-off, search operation was launched by the Army and the police near Bandercherra Village. Early in the morning, the movement of a suspected individual was observed following which an operation was launched and Manful was nabbed. On searching his belongings, a country made pistol and live ammunition was recovered along with some personal items.
High level of alertness, civic action and coordinated efforts of the security forces and local police has led to the arrest of the dreaded insurgent. Manful’s arrest comes as a major setback to the insurgent group and has dealt a severe blow to its extortion activities. The operation will go a long way in making the civilians feel more secure and will prove to be a huge “morale-booster” for the security forces, the release concluded.
