The president of the left-leaning faction of the Karbi Students Association (KSA), Simeon Rongphar, who was sent to judicial custody, got bail on Monday.

After being bailed out, KSA leader Rongphar termed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a ‘fascist’ party which favours ‘dictatorship’.

After his release, Rongphar was received by KSA leaders and activists of allied organisations at the Diphu Civil Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for an ailment.

Addressing the media briefly inside the premises of the hospital, Rongphar said, “The BJP is a fascist party.”

Thanking the activists of the KSA and 16 other organisations for extending support to him, Rongphar said, “I thank the activists of the KSA and 16 other organisations for rendering help to me in the time of need. I offer my sincere thanks to the lawyer, doctors and the people for their love.”

“On this Christmas I pray for those who have given me love and support; let the price of love give them peace, love and joy at this moment,” said Rongphar.

He also said, “I want to remind the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the BJP that India is a democratic country and believe in Gandhian principle. But my arrest on December 14 levelling false charges proves that the BJP is a fascist party and it favours dictatorship,” adding, “I am not a murderer.”

The KSA leader also said: “The Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, must fulfill his promises regarding scrapping of Clause 8 of the Bodo Accord and granting of Autonomous State according to Art 244(A) of the Indian Constitution.”
