Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president and former All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi’s mother passed away at a private hospital in Dibrugarh on Wednesday night.

The Assam Jatiya Parishad president’s mother, Dulu Gogoi, a resident of Laipuli in Tinsukia district, was admitted to the Sanjivani Hospital in Dibrugarh after she suffered a brain stroke on Monday.

Earlier, doctors had said there was no improvement in the health of Dulu Gogoi since her admission in the ICCU of the hospital.

She was kept under ventilation support.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed deep condolence at the demise of Lurinjyoti Gogoi’s mother.

“Saddened to learn of the demise of Dulu Gogoi, mother of Shri @lurinjtgogoi. In this hour of grief, I offer my deepest condolences to Lurinjyoti and his family and prayers for peace of the departed soul. Om Shanti,” Sonowal tweeted.

“Dulu Gogoi has been under ventilation support as she suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage. Her condition is critical,” Uddip Jyoti Gogoi, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) vice president, said earlier.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who was campaigning for his party candidate in Morigaon Assembly constituency, rushed to Dibrugarh to be with his mother after he got the news of her mother’s illness.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi is contesting the Assam Assembly election 2021 as a candidate of newly-launched regional party, Assam Jatiya Parishad from two Assembly constituencies.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi is contesting from Naharkatiya and Duliajan Assembly constituencies.

In Naharkatiya Assembly constituency, Congress has fielded former minister Pranati Phukan while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Taranga Gogoi.

In Duliajan Assembly constituency, the BJP has fielded sitting BJP MLA Terosh Gowala and Dhruba Jyoti Gogoi is the Congress candidate.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi resigned as the AASU general secretary to join the Assam Jatiya Parishad during the student body’s conference in Duliajan last year.

He was declared as the president of Assam Jatiya Parishad during a meeting of the party in Sivasagar.
