An MBBS intern at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) tested positive for Covid -19 on Tuesday along with 19 others without travel history indicating that the community spread in Jorhat district was galloping ahead at a fast pace.
Till Monday the figures which had stood at 25 nearly doubled on Tuesday at 40.

A JMCH doctor said that the intern was in orthopaedics department and had started her duty from Sunday.
On Monday she had complained of having fever so was tested, the doctor said.
Deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati said that she was under treatment at JMCH. The intern hailed from Diphu in Karbi Anglong district.

From among the other 19 persons, who tested positive for the virus , two were PSOs of the superintendent of police, Jorhat while 17 others were linked to Gautam Ghosh, co-owner of a spice factory at Barpool.
Gautam Ghosh was tested positive for the virus a few days ago, after the owner of Everbake, a popular bakery, who is another co-owner of the spice factory, tested positive along with his wife, two children and an employee.
The results of the two cops (PSOs) whose swabs were taken after two constables of the SP’s office had tested positive on July 3 came out today.
The total number of positive cases now stands at 88 in Jorhat with 39 admitted at 5 Air Force Hospital and 49 at JMCH.
Korati further said that the lockdown would come into place in municipal board areas of Jorhat at 7 pm on July 7 to July 15 and would be total including closure of grocery shops.
On Saturday and Sunday the lockdown which had been extended to the suburbs would also be in place.
