Assam: Husband hired 3 men for Rs 30,000 to kill wife in Kokrajhar; all 4 arrested

Kokrajhar Police on Monday arrested a man, who killed his second wife along with three other men, whom he had hired for Rs 30,000, in Kokrajhar district.

The incident of murder took place at Titaguri Sutarpara under Tinali Balajan outpost in Kokrajhar police station.

Kokrajhar superintendent of police Rakesh Roushan said, “The police have started investigation into the murder case and arrested four persons on charges of their involvement in the case.”

The arrested persons include the deceased woman’s husband, identified as Satiram Basumatary, Gaidang
Mushahary, Butonga Basumatary and Rabin Basumatary.

The four allegedly beheaded the woman, identified as Bimola Basumatary alias Gaide Basumatary in the hours on Sunday.

She was the second wife of Satiram Mushahary.

Bimala Basumatary was allegedly killed by her husband Satiram Mushahary with the help of the other accused Gaidang Mushahary (48) hailing from Santipur village in Chirang, Buthunga Basumatary (48), and Rabin Basumatary from Pub Taraibari village.

In an interaction with the media at Kokrajhar, superintendent of police Rakesh Roushan said all the four accused nabbed by the Kokrajhar police have been sent to the judicial custody .

“On being informed about the incident, we launched a prompt action and finally we have been able to arrest the culprits within a very short span of time,” Roushan said.

“Satiram Basumatary, who is a prime accused of the incident, confessed to his guilty before the police. He revealed that he had hired the other accused by providing a sum of Rs 30,000 to kill his wife,” the SP said.

Satiram told the police that he held his second wife, Bimala Basumatary, responsible for his first wife’s prolonged illness.

Satiram confessed that he suspected that his second wife might have practised evil practice (bejali) resulting in his first wife’s illness and so, he killed Bimala along with his partners.

Kokrajhar Police have registered a case under 360/20 and as per the Indian Penal Code 120 (b) , 301/302 all the accused have been arrested, said Roushan.

The police have recovered the body some few metres from the house of Satiram Basumatary and a sharp knife has also found from the place.
