Ahead of Independence Day celebration, Guwahati Police and Udalguri police based on specific intelligence inputs recovered a  huge cache of arms and ammunitions from Udalguri late on Thursday night.

The arms and ammunition were wrapped in plastic and were buried in the ground.

The recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, five AK-56 rifles, two M-16 rifles, one airgun, seven 9 mm pistol along with several rounds of bullets, seven grenades, 200 detonator caps, 20 kilograms of explosives among other.

In recent times, Udalguri police have recovered several such consignments of arms and ammunition from several locations of the district.

The entire operation was led by Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prashad Gupta who is also the ADGP of the Special Branch of Assam Police.

However, no arrests were made in this connection and police sources said that they are still investigating the case.
