In response to a call by Asam Sahitya Sabha to launch statewide campaign against superstition, other social evils as well as to mobilize public opinion against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, to protect Assamese language and it’s rich cultural tradition, the Hojai district unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha organized a public meeting on Saturday at Sahityarthi Bezbaruah Bhawan in Hojai’s New Market, a press communiqué released on Monday stated.

According to the press communiqué issued by Hojai district unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha president, Dr Sardananda Dev Goswami and general secretary Anup Kumar Borthakur stated that several non-political organizations participated in the public meeting and have raised their voice against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, and are standing united to protect Assamese language and it’s rich cultural tradition from anti- Assamese lobby.

The public meet presided over by the president of Hojai district unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Sardananda Dev Goswami was attended by several organizations.

Prominent among them were Asom Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Sarv Hindustani Parishad Assam, Adivasi Chatra Sanstha, Dimasa Chatra Sanstha, Hojai Zila Karamchari Parishad, All Assam Minority Student’s Union, Yuba Chatra Parishad and Sankar Sangha.

These organizations have also submitted their respective memorandum to Hojai district unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Educationalist Pradip Bagchi, social workers Rakhal Das and Abdul Hasib individually kept their views and raised their voice against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Earlier, general secretary of Hojai unit of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Anup Kumar Borthakur explained the significance of the public meet as well as anchored the whole meet.

A booklet termed ‘Raijmel’ and it’s point of discussion was also distributed in the meet.
