Hojai Unit of Assam Sarv Shiksha Mission, Jugijaan unit observed ‘World Disability Day’ with day-long activities at Marwari Hindi Prathamic Vidalaya in Hojai of Assam on Tuesday.
On the occasion, in a bid to create awareness on disability, an exhibition, a health camp, an awareness rally, different competitions like quiz, dance, recitation and art were specially organized.
At the outset, flag of World Disability Day was unfurled by Jiten Deka, block elementary education officer, Jugijaan Education Block followed by an awareness rally taken out in the town.
In the rally, school students, disabled ones and people from all the walks of life participated holding placard which read messages ‘Disability is not a Curse’, ‘Education is our right’.
Around, 98 disabled students took part in the various competitions.
An art exhibition was showcased by deaf and dumb Anupama Debnath.
In the afternoon, a public meeting was organized where Jangmir Rongpharpi, assistant commissioner graced as chief guest along with many other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Jangmir Rongpharpi said, “Differently abled people are more abled than us, they should not be ignored at any cost.”
“In society there should be an inclusive and equal environment for them,” she added.
On this occasion, Jayanto Chaudhary, special educator for disabled ones donated 50 school bags among the disable ones and Ramesh Harizan, principal of Marwari Hindi Prathamic Vidalaya distributed biscuits and chocolate among the students.
