Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday asked the people of the state to use gamusa as a face cover by taking inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sarma said PM Modi’s usage of the gamusa as a face cover is a moment of happiness and pride for Assam.

“Gamusa is the symbol of rich culture & vibrant history of Assam,” Sarma tweeted.
“Honourable PM Sri Narendra Modi using Gamusa as a face cover makes us gleam with happiness and pride. I request people of Assam to also use gamusa to cover their faces as replacement of mask,” he added.
The Prime Minister was seen wearing a gamusa around his neck and also using it as a face cover during his visit to Odisha and West Bengal on Friday.

He had visited the two states to take stock of the situation in the wake of the damages caused by cyclone Amphan.
Modi conducted an aerial survey of Odisha’s Bhadrak and Balasore areas to assess the impact of the cyclone following which he conducted review meetings with chief minister Naveen Patnaik and other senior state and central government functionaries in Bhubaneswar.
He announced a financial assistance of Rs. 500 crore to Odisha and also pledged an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the seriously injured in the cyclone in the state.
Modi also undertook an aerial survey of the cyclone affected districts of West Bengal and held a review meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee and other senior officers of the state and central governments.
He also announced a financial assistance of Rs. 1,000 crore to West Bengal and pledged an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the seriously injured in the cyclone in the state.
