Assam government offers DSP post to Hima Das

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the state government has decided to offer the post of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) to ace sprinter Hima Das.

“Respecting laurels that Hima Das has won across the globe for the state, the Assam government has decided to offer her the post of a DSP,” Sarma announced in his budget speech.

The Assam government has also decided to appoint athletes from the state, who will win a medal at the Olympics, Asian Games or Commonwealth Games, as Grade-I officers or magistrate.

“The Assam government seeks to encourage more people to devote time in sports and excel in it so that they just don’t bring laurels only to themselves but also to the state,” Sarma said.

“We hope this will make more and more young people take sports as a career,” Sarma added.

“For encouraging sportsperson, so that they succeed in the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, I propose a policy to designate these achievers as Grade-I officers of the state government,” Sarma reiterated.

“Our government is pleased to announce Hima Das as the first recipient of this policy,” Sarma said.

The ace sprinter in a Tweet thanked Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowl and Himanta Biswa Sarma for offering the post.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Chief Minister @sarbanandsonwal sir and the Honourable finance Minister of Assam @himantabiswa sir for having offering me the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in recognition of my achievements,” she tweeted.
