Assam: Heroin worth Rs 2.9 crore seized in Cachar

Guwahati: A joint operation involving the Cachar Police and Assam Rifles in Cachar district, Assam, resulted in a significant heroin seizure.

The team intercepted and confiscated 420.57 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth over Rs 2 crore in the illegal market.

To conceal the drugs, they were cleverly hidden within 19 soap boxes. Additionally, a resident of Manipur identified as Haomin Thang Dongel was apprehended.

The police said that the seized items are worth Rs 2.9 crore in the international market.

Further investigation regarding the seizure is being carried out by the police.

The source and destination of the contraband items are also being determined.

Earlier, a couple hailing from Tripura has been arrested in Assam for allegedly being involved in an illegal drug trade.

As per reports, the couple, identified as Bilal Hossain and a woman were apprehended by local police in Patharkandi, Assam, after allegedly collecting drugs from a “secret location”.

As per police sources the duo, along with their child, had travelled to Patharkandi in an auto.

They were intercepted by the police based on information.

Police sources from Patharkandi Police Station revealed that the couple had acquired 10,000 Yaba tablets, neatly wrapped in black plastic packets, during their visit to a local secret dera in Assam.

The estimated value of the seized narcotics is around Rs 20 lakh.

The couple, residents of Kalamchora village under Sepahijala District of Tripura, was caught during a search operation.

The police have initiated an investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against them.
