Assam police on Thursday morning seized 660 grams of heroin worth over Rs 4 crore from a truck at Jorabat on the outskirts of Guwahati.

Police said, acting on specific information about the shipment of the drug consignment from Manipur, a search was launched at Jorabat under Basistha Police station around 4:30 am.

During the search in a truck, the drugs were recovered from a truck which was concealed inside the engine cover of the vehicle.

A total of 60 packets of suspected heroin weighing around 660 grams packed in plastic soap cases were recovered.

Police also recovered Rs 45,000 cash from the driver of the truck along with two mobile phones.

Two persons identified as Warish, 26, and Jennyson Tayenjam, 20, have been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Both of them hail from the Thoubal district in Manipur.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, said a police official.
