The HDFC Bank signboard at Kaziranga. Northeast Now Representative image

The HDFC Bank, as part of its business strategy, has put a signboard along the National Highway 37 at World Heritage Site Kaziranga National Park with a slogan to conserve rhinos in Assam.

But due to mistakes in the signboard, right from the image of the rhino to the spellings of the words used in it, the Bank has drawn flak from all quarters.

The Bank, which has called for conservation of rhino, in its signboard, the Assamese word for rhino ‘Ganr‘ has wrongly been written as ‘Gar’ which means ‘fortification’ or ‘a piece of wood used as support for chopping something’; besides the word ‘Marjadaa” which should have been written as ‘Marjyaadaa’.

The another major mistake in the signboard is that while Kaziranga National Park is famous across the world for its one-horned rhino, the image used in the signboard is of African two-horned rhino.

The locals have raised question over the publicity policy of the Bank which has wrongly publicised Africa’s rhino and that too in Assamese language with errors as there is no need of conservation of African rhinos in Kaziranga.

The locals have demanded the Bank to immediately remove the signboard from the roadside at Kaziranga.

The locals have also demanded that necessary steps be taken against the Bank for putting such a signboard which may harm the World heritage Site Kaziranga National Park, which attracts tourists across the world for its one-horned rhinos.
