The Hailakandi district administration has found violation of model code of conduct (MCC) by some candidates during their election campaign meetings in the district.
Returning Officer, Adil Khan has issued show cause notices to two candidates of the AIUDF for violation of MCC in their campaign meetings on November 28.
AIUDF Zila Parishad candidate of Rangauti-Nitainagar constituency, Farhana Khanam Choudhury used loudspeakers in her election campaign beyond the permissible time limit of 8 pm forcing the magistrate and police to intervene and stop her meeting. The MCC clearly stipulates that microphone/loudspeakers cannot be used between 8 pm to 8 am.
In yet another case of violation of MCC, AIUDF Zila Parishad candidate of Bhatirkupa-Boalipar constituency, Jahurul Islam Mazumder used loudspeakers beyond the permissible time limit prompting the administration to stop the meeting.
Returning Officer, Khan while serving show cause notices to both candidates, asked them to reply as to why action should not be initiated against them for flagrant violation of MCC, including cancellation of their candidature.
