Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) supremo and chief of Bodoland Territorial Council Hagrama Mohilary have expressed confidence of his party winning the Lok Sabha elections from Kokrajhar constituency with clear majority.
Talking to reporters after a party meeting at a hotel in Kokrajhar, Mohilary said the BPF is winning the Kokrajhar seat with over five lakhs votes as people have voted for the party in the third phase election held on April 23 last. He also said sitting MP and independent candidate Naba Kumar Sarania will come second with four lakhs plus vote while the UPPL candidate will garner three lakhs plus vote.
The BPF has fielded Parmila Rani Brahma from Kokrajhar constituency.
Mohilary claimed that party’s chances of winning is hundred per cent with minimum five lakhs plus vote. He also said the BJP-AGP-BPF alliance will win in 10-12 seats in Assam.
A party meeting of BPF was held on Thursday in Kokrajhar to analyses the votes in the April 23 polling. Senior party leaders like Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, party vice president Prabin Boro, Pramila Rani Brahma and other party workers attended the meeting.
It is to be mentioned that Kokrajhar is witnessing a multi-corned contest this time with a total nine candidates in fray. The key candidates are Sabda Ram Rabha of Indian National Congress, Pramila Rani Brahma of Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF), sitting MP and independent candidate Naba Kr Sarania and Urkhao Gwra Brahma of United People’s Party (Liberal). The other candidates in fray are Biraj Deka from CPI(M), Rajesh Narzary of Voters’ Party International, Charan Iswary of Purvanchal Janata Party (Secular), Ranjay Kr. Brahma (Independent), and Prasenjit Kr Das (Independent).
Kokrajhar recorded a poll percentage of 83.2 per cent. The total number of voters in the constituency is 17,65,411, out of which 900284 are male and 8,65,126 are female voters.
