The mela aims to familiarise farmers with modern agricultural practices while encouraging sustainable and region-specific farming methods.

Haflong: With the objective of boosting agricultural productivity and promoting self-reliance among farmers, a two-day Kisan Mela was held in Haflong, in Assamโ€™s Dima Hasao district.

The event was organised by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with allied sectors under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme โ€“ Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).

The mela, which began on Tuesday, aims to familiarise farmers with modern agricultural practices while encouraging sustainable and region-specific farming methods.

A variety of locally grown crops and agricultural products were displayed at the venue. The Agriculture Department showcased essential farming tools, including traditional implements such as hoes and hand cultivators, alongside modern agricultural machinery.

Several Self-Help Groups (SHGs) set up stalls to exhibit and sell indigenous and handmade products directly to consumers at affordable prices.

A large number of farmers also participated in a โ€˜Buyers & Sellersโ€™ meet, presenting their locally grown organic produce.

Officials said the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between departmental resources and grassroots farmers, while fostering entrepreneurship and economic independence within the farming community of the district.
