Green Bus Guwahati
Guwahati DCP issues Green Bus rules as 63 driver licences cancelled over traffic violations and safety concerns.

Guwahati: Guwahati DCP (Traffic) has issued fresh guidelines for Green Bus operators, directing drivers to maintain lane discipline, avoid overtaking, and comply with traffic regulations. Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration has cancelled the licences of 63 Green Bus drivers for traffic violations.

Under the new directives, Green Buses will have to operate only on the left lane of the road and drivers have been prohibited from overtaking other vehicles. Authorities have warned that any bus found violating traffic norms will be removed from the road for seven days.

The Guwahati Traffic Police has also made it mandatory for Green Bus drivers to prominently display their driving licences on the front windshield of the vehicles to ensure individual accountability during enforcement drives. The move will help traffic personnel identify drivers responsible for violations and initiate action against them.

The crackdown comes after growing concerns over road safety involving Green Buses in the city. Recently, two persons lost their lives after being hit by a Green Bus in Guwahatiโ€™s Fancy Bazar area.

In another incident, a scooter rider sustained injuries after a Green Bus allegedly took the wrong route and rammed into the two-wheeler.

Officials said the new measures are aimed at improving traffic discipline among Green Bus drivers and preventing accidents caused by reckless driving, improper lane usage and violation of road safety rules.

The authorities have warned that strict action will continue against drivers found ignoring the prescribed guidelines and endangering the safety of commuters.
