An under-trial prisoner of Guwahati Central Jail, who was undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), reportedly escaped from the hospital on Wednesday night.
The prisoner identified as Bijay Debnath, a resident of central Assam’s Hojai district, was reportedly brought to the GMCH after he complained of abdomen pain.
Sources said he was diagnosed with gallbladder disease.

Sources said he was not handcuffed while in the hospital ward and was guarded by a policeman.
It is immediately not known how the prisoner managed to escape from the hospital.
