Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi on Wednesday pitched for sustainable development of BTC region and called upon the officers of all departments to dedicate themselves for speedy and timely implementation of State and Centrally-sponsored schemes being monitored by various line departments.
Prof Mukhi was given a warm reception by the Principal Secretary of BTC, BC Phukan, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP), Kokrajhar during his visit to the district.

Mukhi, who arrived at Kokrajhar in the morning by Rajdhani Express, held discussions with the security agencies at the Circuit House and assessed the law and order situation. He was accompanied by his wife, the first lady of the State, Prem Mukhi.
During the discussion, the Principal Secretary of BTC, BC Phukan, Kokrajhar DC Niranjan Baruah, IGP Anurag Agarwal, SP Rajen Singh, 7th APBn Commandant MM Boro, Commanding Officer (CO) of 12th Sikh Li Infantry, Commanding Officer of 8th APBn, CO of 31 Bn. SSB, CO of 166 Infantry Bn, CO of 129 Bn, CRPF and CO of 7th Dogra Regiment were also present.
Governor Mukhi asked the district administration and other security agencies to streamline the security arrangements ahead of the final draft publication of NRC on July 30 and take all precautionary measures.

Later, the Governor chaired a meeting with the department heads where the progress of various developmental works was discussed. During the discussion, Mukhi said the Central Government had taken up a target to double the income of the farmers in the country by 2022.
Laying emphasis on the necessity of clear objectives to achieve the goal, Governor Mukhi said, departments like agriculture, soil conservation, irrigation, fishery, veterinary and handloom and textile should find out the innovative ideas jointly for development under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) for increasing the production of farmers so that their income could be double.
He also laid stress on the improvement of road connectivity, education, irrigation, health and power line connection under Din Dayal Upadhaya Gram Jyoti Yajana in every rural village.
“Agriculture is our mainstay of our economy and deserves a special focus to bring about sustainable development in the region,” said Mukhi adding that the heads of the departments should dedicate in their respective fields. He called upon the farmers to adopt multiple cropping.
He also asked the officers to follow his directives to clean up office premises under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Mission on every 7th day of the month. He further insisted the officers to go to the rural areas to understand the ground realities of projects undertaken by various departments.
Mukhi held a meeting with the Executive Members (EMs), members of BTC Legislative Assembly and top officials of the council at the assembly auditorium hall. He reviewed various schemes undertaken by the council. A power-point presentation was also made highlighting the progress of schemes on the occasion.
Prof Mukhi also visited Kokrajhar Science College, RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar Police Station and Ghoskata village.
He monitored the cleanliness of the surroundings in the town under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He hailed the chairman of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) Bishnu Narzary, who has been working relentlessly to clean up Kokrajhar town since assuming office, who is implementing Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM).
He also said he had seen Kokrajhar next to Hyderabad to implement SLRM and make the town clean. In Ghoskata, he reviewed the progress of electricity connection. He asked the officials concerned to complete the connection of electricity by July 31.
The Governor also held discussions with various delegations of different organisations and political parties including ABSU, ABMSU, AKRSU, AASAA, AGSU, ASU, BSU, Dularai Bathou Dhwrwm Afat, Dularai Boro Harimu Afat, Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA), All Bodoland Taekwondo Association (ABTA), BPF, UPPL, Congress (I), BJP, officials of Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA).
Besides elected members and leaders of religious organizations also met him. He heard the problems of the delegations and assured them to take the problems with the Government for solution. He also interacted with media persons on the implementation of Government schemes in the region at Circuit House.
