Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced measures to ensure a swift legal process in the case of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg.
The Chief Minister stated that starting January 12, the Assam government will appoint a special public prosecutor dedicated solely to this case to help speed up court proceedings.
He added that discussions are underway with senior criminal lawyers to take on the role, reflecting the government’s commitment to handling the matter seriously.
Sarma also said the state plans to request the High Court to set up a special court to fast-track the trial. “The objective is to ensure that justice is delivered without unnecessary delay and in a transparent manner,” he said.
Acknowledging the emotional significance and public interest surrounding the case, the Chief Minister highlighted that the government is committed to a time-bound legal process.
He noted that these steps aim to restore public trust in the justice system while ensuring fairness for everyone involved.
According to local media, a coroner’s inquiry into Zubeen Garg’s death is scheduled to begin in Singapore on January 14, 2026.
