Guwahati: The Assam government has initiated a new state-wide solid waste management project under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Urban).
The project is aimed towards establishing modern waste management systems in 48 municipalities.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal announced the project, urging officials to eliminate garbage from all municipalities within a year. Construction of waste management plants is underway in 18 cities, with work in Nalbari, Silapathar, Barpeta Road, and other municipalities progressing rapidly.
The government has also organized training for municipal officials to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Attempts to increase the reach of the project is being carried out as well.
