Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi along with the First Lady of Assam Prem Mukhi visited Guwahati Central Jail on Monday at Lokhara and interacted with the inmates.

The Governor while taking a look at all enclosures of the prison took stock of the arrangements made available for the inmates.

While expressing satisfaction over the hygiene maintained in the jail campus, he asked Inspector General of Prisons (IGP) Barnali Sharma to expand the living space for the inmates to give them quality living.

He also asked the IGP to sustain the delivery of safe and pure drinking water in the prison so that the inmates are not deprived of basic requirments.

He also asked her to pursue counselling sessions more vigorously and use the prison as a reformatory to help the inmates to change their behaviour and attitude towards life.

The Governor also visited the jail hospital and inspected the facilities provided to the inmates.

Stressing on the importance of reading books, the Governor asked the authorities to upgrade the library and motivate the inmates to read more books.

He also urged upon all in the jail to practice yoga to keep them mentally and physically healthy and concentrate on the good aspects of life.

Interacting with the inmates, the Governor asked them to participate in music classes and sports activity which according to him besides giving them relaxation will help the inmates to dedicate them in the creative pursuits of life.

While seeing different articles made from cane and bamboo by the jail inmates, the Governor hailed the creativity of the inmates.

The Governor visited the kitchen, skill development centre, library and yoga cell and inspected the facilities provided to the inmates.

The first lady of Assam Prem Mukhi visited the female ward and interacted with the female inmates.
