Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day has urged upon everybody especially the youths to see the brighter side of life and abstain themselves from tobacco consumption in any form.
World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31 every year.

In a statement, the Governor said this year the World No Tobacco Day which is being observed on the theme ‘Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use’ is very apt and stresses on adequate awareness about the negative impact of tobacco on human health.”
Smoking and chewing tobacco amount to heavy toll on human lives every year, he said.
Prof Mukhi said the young people should be guided with the requisite knowledge so that they can differentiate between good and bad.

The youth should be empowered to lead a healthy life and contribute to the growth of the nation.
The Governor further said, “I call upon the youth to get yourselves engaged in yoga, meditation and different forms of physical exercise to motivate yourselves to love your body and health and stay away from tobacco products for they only impel indiscriminate killing”.
