Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday presented Jeevan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka Lifetime Achievement Award to five noted cultural and literary persons at a function held at ITA Pragjyoti Cultural Complex at Machkhowa in Guwahati.
The award consists of a plaque and cash award of Rs. 50,000 and are given to persons in recognition to their cultural and literary excellence.
This year the awardees are ArunSarma (posthumously), Bidya Rao, Dilip Kumar Hazarika, Archana Mahanta and PhatikBarua.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mukhi urged upon the society at large to contribute to the cause of humanity. Acknowledging the role of Jeewan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka Public Charitable Trust, Prof Mukhi said a small work of benevolence goes a long way in lending a life of dignity to the poor as the Charitable Trust has curved a niche in rendering humanitarian services to the society and giving the poor and needy a chance to lead a life of respect.
He also appealed to the people to provide selfless service as per their strength without expecting anything in return.
In a country like ours, Assam is famous for its unique art, culture and literature and giving the awards in recognition to the unparalleled contributions of the award winners is a testimony to the prolific ambience of Assam for art, culture and literature.
He further said since youths are the future of the country every organisation in their capacity should do something to motivate the youths and indirectly help the society to go forward.
Mukhi congratulated the award winners and wished them to continue their good works in the days to come to bring about qualitative changes in the society.
