Assam Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi’s maiden visit to Darrang was packed with meetings related to review of government schemes with officials and ‘Swachh Bharat’ awareness campaign in the district.
While interacting with media at the Mangaldai Circuit House, Jagdish Mukhi said, “The insurgency issue has resulted in the Northeast due to the problem of unemployment .But the subsequent governments had never tried to address the issue in a proper manner . They had observed it only from the security point of view and tried to solve the problem by deploying security agencies like the Army , BSF etc and announcing some rehabilitation packages. But the present government led by PM Modi is very much interested in expediting the pace of development in the region.

Referring to the initiatives being taken up by the government, he said that Assam is going to be the ‘Digital Hub’ of India while proposed water way from Guwahati to Chittagong in Bangladesh would be the shortest route for transportation of goods to Assam which would also be a cheaper one. He also made a fervent appeal to people not to be the job taker, but to be the job giver.
“Five cities of Assam are going to be connected directly with New Delhi by air and the present capacity of 80 flights in Lokapriya Gopi Nath Bordoloi Airport will be increased up to 300 flights per day within a short period.
Governor Mukhi visited a primary school at Bandia and Mangaldai Town Girls HS School, Dhula Police Station and also visited Mangaldai Civil Hospital. During his visit to the hospital he closely interacted with a section of indoor patients and took stock of the functioning of the hospital, inspected the operation theatre , toilets etc. Later the Governor held discussions with the heads of the security agencies, district heads of the departments and members of various political parties, social organizations, students’ organizations, NGOs and leading citizens in three separate meetings at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

In the luncheon meeting at Mangaldai circuit House Professor Jagdish Mukhi offered congratulations to Voice India Kids-2 Champion Manashi Saharia of Udamri village near Kalaigaon with a Bihuwan and also gifted her several valuable books on music besides financial support of Rs.10, 000.00.
The Governor in his return journey to Raj Bhavan this afternoon visited the Krishak Swahid memorial at Pothorughat and offered floral tribute in memory of 140 Krishak Swahids who were brutally shot dead by the British rulers on January 28 of 1894.
Significantly, the office bearers of Mangaldai Media Circle submitted a memorandum before the Governor with a request to make arrangements for a visit of the President of India at historic Pothorughat so that this neglected chapter of the freedom struggle of India could be granted national recognition and he assured to make communication with the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
