Assam Governor attends Brahmaputra Pushkaram

Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi attended the Brahmaputra Pushkaram at Sonaram Field in Guwahati on Saturday.

Attending the festival, the Governor said, “Brahmaputra Pushkaram and Sanskritik Somaroh festival is a great occasion to showcase our earnest gratitude to the life giving prosperity of the Brahmaputra.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said what was worshipped in the mythology has great relevance to modern science.

Everyone should conserve water and make conscious effort to harvest water.

It should be a moral responsibility to stop wastage and pollution of water and conscious effort should be made towards maintaining the purity of water.

Stating that Centre has introduced Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure water to all households, Prof Mukhi said, “Conservation of water bodies, rivers and rivulets is our priority.”

“Central and State governments are also taking many initiatives to generate awareness especially among the school children,” he added.

“Our sole intention is to help the growing children to become responsible citizens in future and who in turn can promote judicious use of water,” he also said.

“This ideal blend of our mythology and science is very essential for the sustenance of life. In view of this, we all have to take larger responsibility for presenting an ideal atmosphere for future generation,” he reiterated.

The Governor also said through the festival, a broad canvas has been presented to pay odes to the numerous teeming ethnic cultures originated along the mighty Brahmaputra and its 121 tributaries.

He also believed that this festival will showcase the State as one of the epicentres of cultural and spiritual tourism.

The First Lady of Assam Prem Mukhi, vice-president of Purva Tirupathi Sri Balaji Seva Samiti K Muthuswamy and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
