Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi urged upon the young graduates to bring in semblance between technology and social aspects so that the cutting age technology can be used to expedite the welfare of humanity.
Addressing the graduates in the first convocation of Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) at GMCH Auditorium in Guwahati on Saturday, the Governor said that as graduates they have the responsibility to build the nation by making technology user friendly and use them to raise the standard of life.
He also said that convocation of a university is the most important event of an academic programme which celebrates the fruition of months and years of commitment, hard work and perseverance of the students.
Hailing ASTU, Prof Mukhi said, “From a humble beginning to holding the first convocation, the University has come a long way to make a mark in the field of technical education. Students are the flag bearers of a university or college. I hope ASTU will continue to operate with commitment and value and encourage all to put in their efforts for the progress of the society’.
Prof Mukhi also said that the quality of education being nurtured by the university depends a lot on the linkage that are established alongside the process of producing graduates.
He at the same time said that steps have already been taken for ASTU to introduce graduate and post graduate courses in the niche areas of engineering, technology, pharmaceutical science, architecture, management etc, keeping in consideration of modified curriculum of industry-institution interface.
The changing scenario driven by globalization in education, demands establishment of linkages with national and international acclaimed institutions, and ASTU has been successful to a great extent in establishing right linkage to give right kind of education to the students, Prof. Mukhi added.
It may be noted that the convocation conferred degrees to 1569 students of post graduate and under graduate level from 2015 to 2018.
Vice Chancellor of ASTU, Prof Dhiraj Bora and a host dignitaries were present on the occasion.
