Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the government would set up a memorial park named after freedom fighter, Jananeta Bhimbor Deori in the state.
Sonowal was speaking at the open session of the 34th biennial conference of Deori Sahitya Sabha at Bamsenia Pathar of Gogamukh in Dhemaji district on Thursday.

Highlighting the unique qualities of the Deori community, Sonowal emphasised the need for more awareness about the life and works of Bhimbor Deori.
Bhimbor Deori was one of those leaders who played a leading role and fought to save Assam from merging into East Pakistan.
He also urged parents to motivate and inspire their children to take up their studies more seriously so that they could acquire more knowledge.

“The Assam government would staunchly protect the rights and interests of the indigenous people of the state,” Sonowal stressed.
He also assured that the state government would take no step that could harm the interests of the indigenous people.
“The Bhasha Gaurav Achoni was launched with the aim of protecting and promoting every single indigenous language of the state,” Sonowal added.
“Under the Bhasa Gaurav Scheme, financial assistance amounting to Rs 10 crore to Asom Sahitya Sabha, Rs 5 crore to Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Rs 3 crore to each of the indigenous literary bodies will be provided,” he added.
“We are working for the equal development of every community,” he reiterated.
The chief minister also urged the writers and litterateurs to create literary works that promote unity and harmony as well as distinct traditions of all the communities.
Chief Minister Sonowal in the programme also presented an award to writer Shasidhar Deuri which has been instituted by Deori Sahitya Sabha.
