GUWAHATI: The Assam government is under a loan debt of over Rs 1 lakh crore.
This was informed by Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog on Tuesday (February 06).

She was replying to a query in the state’s assembly regarding total loan debts that Assam has.
The Assam minister said that since 2016, Assam is under a loan debt of over Rs 1 lakh crore.
However, she said that all loan debts owed by the Assam government will be repaid by 2025.

The loan debt of Rs 1 lakh crore that the Assam government has to repay is from the time period, when the BJP-led government came to power in the state.
According to reports, the total amount loan debt during the entire period of BJP rule in Assam since 2016, (under former CM Sarbananda Sonowal and current CM Himanta Biswa Sarma), is Rs 1,09,071.22 crore.
