Finally Assam Government has come out in support of the people’s verdict on the proposed mass rally of 26 Bengali organizations on November 17 in Guwahati to garner support for the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
Assam Police on Saturday disclosed that the administration is not going to allow the proposed convention in apprehension of law and order problem.
This was disclosed by ADGP (Special Branch) of Assam Police, Pallab Bhattacharya while interacting with media in Guwahati on Saturday.
Bhattacharya said that the State Home Department and Assam Police are against the proposed convention citing law and order problem.
Notably, several regional parties and organizations have urged the State Government to clear its stand on the proposed convention by the 26 Bengali organizations.
The statement by the ADGP (Special Branch) of Assam Police assumes significance in this regard.
Bhattacharya also said that the organizers of the convention have not approached the administration seeking permission for holding the convention till Saturday.
Meanwhile, as many as 42 organizations have jointly called for a 12-hour Assam bandh on October 23 in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
