Assam government announces 20 per cent bonus for tea garden workers

Keeping its commitment towards the welfare of the tea garden community and uplift of the tea sector of Assam, the State Government on Saturday evening announced a bonus of 20 per cent to workers of tea gardens under Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL).

Hence, all workers of the state owned tea gardens under ATCL would now be eligible for the bonus.

It may be mentioned that ATCL has 15 tea gardens with about 16,748 workers spread across the districts of Nagaon, Biswanath, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Karimganj.

Earlier district administration of various districts under whose jurisdiction state owned tea gardens are located had held parleys regarding giving bonus to tea garden workers ahead of Durga Puja.

Notably, tea garden workers celebrate Durga Puja in all its traditional fervour and it has been a custom for the government to give bonus ahead of Durga Puja to these tea garden workers.
