Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) superintendent Dr Abhijit Sharma and Tinsukia deputy commissioner Bhaskar Pegu have tested positive for COVID19 on Saturday.
Earlier, a media report, published on Wednesday, quoted officials as saying that several senior bureaucrats, including the commissioner and secretary to Assam Governor, have tested positive for COVID19.

The report claimed at least five senior officials of Assam tested COVID19 positive.
The report said commissioner and secretary to the Governor of Assam, S Meenakshi Sundaram, his wife and mother tested positive for COVID19 and they were undergoing treatment at GMCH.
The report also senior IAS officer Oinam Sarankumar Singh, the commissioner of industries department and the MD of Assam Industrial Development Corporation, also tested positive for COVID19.

Assam has so far registered a total of 21,864 COVID19 positive cases with 6,643 active cases and 53 deaths while a total of 15,165 patients have recovered from the disease.
The state reported deaths of two positive COVID19 patients on Saturday.
Confirming the death of the two persons, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the deceased have been identified as 61-year-old Binandi Ram Kalita from Kamrup Metro and 62-year-old Sushil Shymal from Jorhat.
