Sleuths the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption of Assam police on Friday arrested an assistant engineer of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a contractor.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Dibakar Mali was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the contractor.
Sources said that Mali had asked for Rs 5000 from the complainant, a contractor, as a bribe for some official work.

Following the complaint, the anti-corruption cell laid a trap and caught Mali from his office at Fancy Bazar on Friday.
He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
