The third edition of the Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) 2019 began on Thursday.

The festival, which will be concluded on Wednesday, is being organized by Jyoti Chitraban in association with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute.

A total of 100 films from 65 countries will be screened in the film festival this year.

The opening function of the film festival will be at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium at 4.30 pm on Thursday.

With Iran being the focus country at the film festival this year, Charcoal (Komur) directed by the country’s eminent director Esmaeel Monsef will be showcased as the opening film this year.

However, screening for some of the films has already been started from 10.30 am on Thursday.

The screening of the films are being held at Madhab Dev International Auditorium, Banikanta Kakati Auditorium, Jyoti Chitraban Auditorium in addition to Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium.

Eminent Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi who has arrived in Guwahati as the chief guest of GIFF 2019 will hold a special interaction programme from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm on November 1.

The closing film of GIFF 2019 To The Desert (Al Desierto) will be screened at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium at 4.30 pm on November 6.
