Assam: Four teenagers washed away in Kundil River in Tinsukia

DIBRUGARH: In a tragic incident, four teenage students were swept away by the strong currents of the Kundil River in Sadiya, located in Tinsukia district of Assam.

The incident occurred at Paglam village in Sadiya of Assam after the students went to bathe in the river after classes.

The bodies of two students, Amrit Chetry (15) and Bhaskar Bhattarai (15), have been recovered by villagers.

However, two other students, Vivek Chetry (15) and Ram Chetry (15), remain missing.

The Assam State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has launched a search operation to locate the missing teenagers.

“We, six friends, decided to have some refreshments and went to the Kundil River. One of our friends suggested going for a bath in the river. Two of us didn’t join in, but the other four went into the water and didn’t come back,” recounted one of the youths present at the scene.

He added, “We informed our parents, who then alerted the villagers. A search operation was initiated, and the villagers managed to recover two bodies from the river.”
