Assam: Former Barak students’ body leader Pradip Dutta Roy floats new political party

Ahead of the Assembly elections in Assam, a new political party was floated on Saturday at Silchar in Barak valley.

The founder-president of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association, Pradip Dutta Roy and some of his associates floated the new political party–Barak Democratic Front (BDF).

Dutta Roy, while announcing the launch of the new party in a convention at Silchar, said that they are going to float the party protesting the discrimination against the people of Barak valley.

He said that the party will contest in all the 15 constituencies of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts of the valley.

Dutta Roy, who has been nominated as the chief convenor of BDF, further said that very soon several BJP and Congress workers will join the party.

Earlier on November 15, another political party was floated in Barak Valley.

Called the Barak Ekta Party, the party has decided to fight in all the 15 constituencies of the Valley.

Barak Ekta Party chief convenor Amit Roy had said though activities are at the planning stage, the new party will focus on fighting for the rights of the fifty lakh people of Barak Valley.

“It is a regional party and our demands will be for the people of Barak,” he said.
