Assam’s woman footballer Apurna Narzary has been selected for the U-19 India team to participate in the U-19 (Women) South Asian Games football championship at Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Apurna Narzary along with Maidangsri Brahma from Assam’s Kokrajhar went to Goa on November 14 to participate in the U-19 women India team selection camp which was held in Goa.

A total of 29 players participated in the selection camp from across the country.

Among 29 players, Apurna Narzary was selected for the U-19 women Indian team squad and SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship 2021 (SAFF South Asian Football Federation) which is going to be held from 11th to 22rd December 11-22 at Bir Sherestha Shaheed Shapahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium, Dhaka in Bangladesh.

The teams, which will participate in the championship, are India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.

In the first match, India will play against Sri Lanka on December 13, 2021.

Maidangsri Brahma was not selected for the U-19 women Indian team.

Apurna Narzary’s father Biswajit Narzary has expressed happiness at the selection of her daughter for the U-19 women Indian team.

He hoped that her daughter would play well, win the cup for India and bring laurels to Assam as well as the BTR.

He said, “My daughter started playing football when she was in Class VIII as a career. She is hard working girl and now, she is pursuing her education at Dotma UN College. She is studying in BA 1st semester along with football.”

Pradip Kr Brahma, in-charge of the SAI Complex, Kokrajhar said, “Apurna Narzary, who has been selected for the India team to play in the U-19 (women) South Asian Games at Dhaka joined the SAI, STC, Kokrajhar on June 20, 2016.”
