Guwahati: Assam’s flood death toll has risen to 102, with around 1.12 lakh people still affected in seven districts. The latest ASDMA assessment on August 11 showed that around 1.12 lakh people remained affected.
At present, 47 relief camps are accommodating 7,982 people who remain displaced. Flooding has also continued across 25 revenue circles in the seven affected districts.
Sivasagar has reported some of the heaviest losses. The preliminary figures show 476 villages and five revenue circles affected, with nearly 5.74 lakh people impacted.
Three revenue circles in Sivasagar are still flooded, leaving about 28,356 hectares under water. Damage has been reported to 3,804 houses, while the estimated animal losses stand at around two lakh, covering poultry and both large and small livestock.
Charaideo has recorded more than two lakh affected people across 193 villages and three revenue circles. The district is currently running 24 relief camps along with 253 relief distribution centres.
So far, Charaideo has recorded 22 deaths and the rescue of 5,698 people. Flooding has affected about 18,449 hectares of farmland, while 488 houses have been completely damaged. More than 23,600 livestock and other animals have also been lost.
Jorhat has 104 affected villages spread across five revenue circles, with the affected population estimated at around 1.66 lakh. About 9,659 people are staying in 39 relief camps, while more than 7,000 hectares of agricultural land have been affected or submerged. The district has recorded nine deaths.
Golaghat has reported flood impact across 254 villages and six revenue circles, affecting more than one lakh people. Fifty relief camps are currently accommodating over 6,000 people. Eight deaths have been recorded, while officials are still assessing damage to houses.
The floods have caused damage across 2,715 villages in Assam and affected around 84,647 hectares of agricultural land. Preliminary figures include 49 breaches in embankments and damage to 104 embankments. Thirty-six bridges and 1,108 roads have also suffered damage.
Relief material arranged by the state includes 48,558 quintals of rice, 10,157 quintals of pulses, 4,007 quintals of salt, 1.63 lakh litres of mustard oil and 79,534 tarpaulin sheets.
Under the interim assistance scheme, each affected family is eligible for Rs 15,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer. The government has already paid 64,891 families, while payments for another 31,212 families are being processed.
Each affected family receives Rs 15,000, with the amount covering clothing, utensils, livelihood support and additional assistance from the state in the respective amounts of Rs 2,500, Rs 2,500, Rs 3,000 and Rs 7,000.
The reported losses may change as officials conduct a more detailed review of the damage, according to the disaster management authority.
