Haflong: Fleming Rupsi, Member of the Autonomous Council (MAC), has been elected as the Deputy Chairman of the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) during the councilโs 8th (253rd) session held at the assembly hall on Wednesday.
Rupsi was elected unanimously after MAC Ramgalungbe Jeme withdrew his nomination for the post. Following his election, council members and others felicitated him by presenting a traditional โRisaโ.
Representing the Jatinga constituency, Rupsi was elected to the NC Hills Autonomous Council for the third consecutive term in the 2024 elections. He had earlier served as an Executive Member of the council.
After taking charge, Rupsi expressed gratitude for being elected unopposed and said he hoped the new responsibility would help bring further development to the district. He acknowledged the challenges ahead and said the position carries a major responsibility to guide the district towards progress while maintaining unity and integrity.
During the session, the council also passed the 49th Amendment Bill, 2023 (Oath Taking Bill) of the NC Hills Autonomous Council, marking a significant development in its legislative proceedings.
