Guwahati: Five boys lost their lives in drowning accidents across Assam’s Lakhimpur and Jorhat districts on Sunday.

The scorching heat proved fatal for three children from Chanimari village in Lakhimpur’s Dhakuakhana area.

The boys, lured by the cool water, ventured into a pond for a swim.

However, attempting to reach deeper water, all three boys drowned. Villagers who witnessed the incident attempted a rescue but were unsuccessful.

A similar incident unfolded in No-Pomuwa Baligaon village, Jorhat district, where two teenagers who were grazing cattle fell into a pond and drowned.

The boys were initially reported missing after failing to return home for several hours.

A search by locals led to the discovery of their bodies in a deep pond located within the grazing field.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
