A fire broke out at the child care unit of Goalpara Civil Hospital on Friday. There is no report of any casualty as of now.

At least 14 newborn babies admitted to the hospital were shifted to safety after the fire broke out around 9:30 am at the child care unit.

As per reports, the newborns were later admitted to a private hospital in Goalpara town.

The cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. Sources said the fire was immediately extinguished by the staff with the help of a fire extinguisher kept in the room.

This is the second such incident in the state this month. Earlier on November 10, a fire broke out at the pediatric ICU of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

At least 12 newborn babies had a close shave when the fire broke out at an incentive care unit (ICU) of the hospital’s Paediatric ward.
