Guwahati: The case had earlier been investigated in Singapore, where authorities described the episode as an โ€œunfortunate accident.โ€ However, the conclusion failed to convince many in Assam, where doubts lingered and demands for a more detailed probe continued to grow.

Amid sustained public pressure, Gargโ€™s family and supporters had urged authorities to expedite the judicial process. Responding to these appeals, the Assam government set up a dedicated fast-track court to ensure swift handling of the matter.

The proceedings are currently being held in Court No. 3 of the Sessions Court in Kamrup Metropolitan district. The case is being presided over by Judge Sharmila Bhuyan, who has been appointed to a specially created supernumerary post equivalent to that of a District and Sessions Judge.

Officials indicated that the trial will proceed in accordance with established legal procedures, with an emphasis on timely disposal. Regular updates on the hearings are expected as the case progresses.
