Assam: Fake currency racket busted in Guwahati, printing machine seized

Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police said that it bused an alleged fake Indian currency note (FICN) manufacturing unit in Guwahati’s Boragaon area.

During the operation, the police arrested one person and seized a large quantity of counterfeit cash and gold.

A police source said that acting on a tip-off, the STF team raided the residence of Abhinah Sarkar (28) in Debkota Nagar, Pachim Boragaon, and recovered a fake currency printing machine.

Along with the machine, the police team seized 205 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination having a face value of Rs 1,02,500.

Apart from this the police also seized four pieces of “fake” gold weighing 2.86 kilograms.

A mobile phone was also confiscated from Sarkar’s possession.

The arrested individual, a resident of Jorhat district, had been living in Boragaon for an extended period.

The police are investigating further to expose any additional links to the fake currency racket.
