A jawan of Dibrugarh Excise department was seriously injured on Thursday night after an Audi car tried to run over him at Bogibeel check gate.

The injured jawan has been identified as Lobran Gogoi.

“The Audi car bearing registration no (AS01-DN-8400) was coming from Dhemaji side to Dibrugarh at a high speed. When the jawan asked to stop the car, it didn’t stop and tried to run over the jawan,” a police official said.

“The jawan and other security personnel somehow managed to save their lives by jumping. But the jawan, Lobran Gogoi, sustained injuries in his leg,” the police official added.

Police said four people were on board the car and all of them were drunk.

Meanwhile, Borbaruah police reached the spot and arrested four of the people, who were inside the car.

The arrested persons have been identified as Alok Dubey, Asotosh Dubey, Parag Biswas and Surajit Som.

All of the arrested people have been sent to judicial custody.

“The injured jawan has filed an FIR at Borbaruah police station and based on the complaint, they were arrested,” said the officer-in-charge of Borbaruah police station.

“We are strict against drugs and liquor and we search every vehicle coming from Dhemaji side. The jawan told the vehicle to stop for a routine check but it didn’t stop and attempted to run over the men on duty. All of them were found drunk,” the police officer said.

In the recent past, many accidents have taken place in the Bogibeel route due to speeding vehicles but it seems that nobody cares for their lives.

“Most of the accidents take place due to overspending of vehicles. Drunk driving is another cause of accidents. We appeal to our people to adhere to all traffic rules while driving and avoid alcohol and over-speeding during driving,” a traffic inspector said.
