Assam Engineering College alumni extends help to poor and needy

Students of Assam Engineering College who passed out in 1988, popularly known as AEC Class 88 Foundation, undertook a series of social initiatives to help the poor and needy sections of the Society.

In a function held at the Institution of Engineers Guwahati Centre, AEC Class 88 distributed financial aid to various NGO’s who are doing exemplary work in the social sector, a press communique issued by Jayanta Barua, member of AEC Class 88 Foundation, on behalf of the Foundation.

A cheque of Rs 30,000 was donated by Trinayan Borah of USA, to Akhiraj Borah of AEC for having conceived and designed the most ‘innovative’ invention.

Another cheque of Rs 25,000 collected by the group was presented to brilliant student Sonmani Kalita. Among the other beneficiaries NGO, Xavier Foundation, which is involved in the collection of old reusable clothes to be distributed amongst the needy, was presented with Rs 10,000, the Brahmaputra Cancer Care Society, which distributes nutritious food to cancer patients in Mumbai was awarded Rs 15,000, Mother’s Old Age Home, under the aegis of Monalisa Society, was presented with an amount of Rs 25,000.

An eye camp was recently organized at Deulkutchi under the guidance of Dr Bijuli Goswami and Dr Barnali Thakur, and the duo were felicitated in the function.

Earlier, five illustrious senior teachers, viz professor Utpal Miri, professor Pradip Brahma, professor Pradip Goswami, professor Kalyani Goswami and professor Uma Sarma were felicitated at the function.

The event was compered by Diganta Goswami, while the welcome address was delivered by president Gautam Phatuwali. An action taken bulletin was released and a cultural show was also organized.
