Assam Digboi Congress
Dulal Moran meets with party workers in Digboi as the Congress ticket race intensifies ahead of Assam elections.

Digboi: The race for the Congress ticket in Digboi ahead of the Assam Assembly elections has intensified, with at least ten aspirants reportedly seeking the party nomination. Party sources say the candidates are engaging with both grassroots workers and state-level leadership.

Among the contenders, Dulal Moran has emerged as a prominent name. He currently serves as President of the MOBC Cell of the District Congress Committee and has previously held positions in the Moran Studentsโ€™ Union and the Moran Sabhaโ€™s central body.

Moran has also been involved in education, cultural initiatives, panchayat service, tea garden-related social work, and literary activities.

Political observers note that the constituencyโ€™s electoral dynamics are influenced by community support, including the Moran, Adivasi (tea tribe), and Hindi-speaking voters. Following recent constituency delimitation, these communities are seen as key to electoral outcomes.

Other reported contenders include Bhaskar Jiban Baruah, Lakheshwar Moran, Rajiv Moran, Gunakanta Gogoi, Runashree Saikia, Vinod Kharia, Bharat Nayak, and Biraj Rajkonwar.

Sources indicate that discussions at the state leadership level are reportedly focusing on three prominent names: Dulal Moran, Lakheshwar Moran, and Bhaskar Jiban Baruah.

The final decision on the party ticket will rest with the Congress high command. Observers note that Digboi, which was considered a Congress stronghold until 2014, will require strategic candidate selection to contest the sitting BJP MLA, Suren Phukan.
