Assam: Dry days announced in Guwahati and neighbouring areas for 48 hours

The Kamrup-Metropolitan district administration has declared dry days from for 48 hours in areas under its jurisdiction that also comprises Guwahati city.

The order of dry days by the Kamrup-M district administration will come into effect on 6pm of April 4 and will continue till 6pm of April 6.

Dry days have been announced in Guwahati and neighbouring areas for 48 hours in connection with the third phase of Assam Assembly elections.

The third phase of Assam Assembly elections will be held on April 6. Voting will begin at 7 in the morning and will culminate at 6pm.

The Kamrup-M Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu in the notification announcing dry days stated: “in connection with 3rd Phase of GENERAL ELECTIONS TO THE STATE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY, 2021, DRY DAY is declared in Kamrup Metropolitan district w.e.f. 6:00 PM of 04/042021 to 06/04/2021”.

“During this period, the Possession/Distribution/Sale of liquor is completely prohibited,” the DC’s order further read.

“All the Wholesale/Bonded Warehouse, IMFL, Retail “OFF” and “ON” shops including Club “ON”, Hotel “ON” and Country Spirit Shops… will remain closed during this period,” the Kamrup-Metro DC’s order read.

“Any violation of the above will be dealt into stringent action as per law,” the order added.

A total of 4 constituencies in Kamrup-Metro district – Guwahati East, Guwahati West, Dispur and Jalukbari will go to polls in the third phase of Assam Assembly elections scheduled to be held on April 6.
