Two notorious drug peddlers from Parbatipur area under Banderdewa police outpost in Lakhimpur district of Assam were shot by police last night while they tried to escape from custody during a search operation by the police.  

They have been identified as Saidul Ali and Ajijur Rahman from Laluk.  

Elaborating the entire incident Lakhimpur additional SP – Sumar Bhuyan, on Friday, said that three drug peddlers Sahidul Ali, Ajijur Rahman and Rais Majhi were apprehended last night from Pathaliphar.  

Police recovered 173 grams of suspected heroin was recovered and a car was also seized from their possession.

After interrogation, the arrested drug peddlers were taken for a search operation led by OC Bihpuria Police Station.  

During the search operation, the peddlers tried to escape by snatching the arms of a constable. 

Police to prevent them from escaping resorted to firing injuring Ajijul and Saidul.  

The third peddler was apprehended without any shot fire at him.  

The injured have been admitted to Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital.
